March 6, DA Promise Five: We Are Enough

Thought for today:

Science tells us that the universe would not be possible if all its elements were perfect.  It is the imbalances in nature that caused the friction that sparked the Big Bang and the colliding planets and stars that led to us, among other things.

In this sense, imperfection is the perfect means of evolution.  So why don’t we embrace mistakes as the learning opportunities they are, instead of  trying to be perfect?  Do we think the pretense will protect us from misfortune?

Who am I to require perfection in myself or others, when so much wonder comes out of accidents and flaws?  How many new habits came from old mistakes that led to a creative new way of doing things?

And aren’t we worthy of being loved regardless of our status in life (income level, size, education level, marital status)?

Like discovering new wildflowers each day of spring, recovery from debting also seems to come about “by accident ” – we are drawn from painful experience to try something new.  In the process, we discover our real value, as humans with gifts and talents.

DA Promise #5: “We will realize that we are enough; we will value ourselves and our contributions.”

Realizing we have innate value is the essence of this promise.  We do not need to chase some concept of perfection for its own sake.

Do I accept that I can never be ‘all things to all people’, but I can be me?

Meditation for today:

How fortunate we are when we find live and acceptance of ourselves entirely as we are.  If we can accept ourselves and others without condition, we start to change our attitude. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives…”

Affirmation for today:

I am lovable as I am. In my imperfections I find opportunities for growth.  So, my imperfections are beautiful creations in the making.

Prayer for today:

I pray that as I practice accepting others, I accept myself.  I pray for the Divine Inspiration to make lemonade when I think I’ve been given lemons.
