March 9, DA Promise Eight: “Jealousy and Envy Will Fade”

Thought for today:

A member shares:

“I do private coaching and most of my students are all extremely wealthy.  I would drive through gates of never-ending driveways, and approach their mansions feeling both jealousy and inadequacy at the same time.  There I was, arriving in my humble sedan to coach someone worth a lot more money than me, someone who had many advantages I didn’t have – and yet I feared I was overcharging!

“DA taught me that I was worthy of my wage, and that if I minded my own business, the quality of my life would improve – and it did!  Over time I realized that because they always asked for me to come back, my service was valuable.

“I now see those customers as ‘regular’ people, each with their own problems and journey.  We have a lot to learn from each other.”

DA Promise Eight: “We will cease to compare ourselves to others; jealousy and envy will fade.”

Self-respect comes from doing estimable things with what we are given, such as giving good service.  Respect for others comes when we recognize their humanity and their unique value, identifying situations we have in common – such as being a parent. We can find a lot in common with anyone if we are just open to the idea.

We need to believe that the result of our work doesn’t depend on our DNA, and we don’t have to be born with opportunity in order to find success and fulfillment.  With the right attitude, letting go of cynicism and despair, we can believe once again that anything is possible.

Do I allow others to have what they have, while I have what I have?  Do I trust that all our needs are being taken care of by our Higher Power?

Meditation for today:

There is no distinction between us that really matters. Why do we only accept the superficial as real, and deny hidden realities? It is easy to categorize people by class, age, gender, size. But it’s when we connect as human beings that incredible healing takes place.

Affirmation for today:

Today I will take my opportunities as they come, and craft my life for great things. I will see the value of my experience, and share it generously with others.

Prayer for today:

I pray to live my own life with enthusiasm.

“God, grant me the serenity to

Accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can, and

Wisdom to know the difference.”

Jerrold Mundis is the author of How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt, and Live Prosperously.  Here he tackles the problems of chronic under-earners offering three cardinal rules: do not incur debt, do not take work that pays less than you require and do not say “no” to money, i.e., ignore opportunities to increase your income. Mundis urges drawing up a spending plan (not a budget, which is too constricting) and recommends such relaxation techniques as meditation and deep breathing.
This inspirational pendant has “God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change…Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference…” engraved on the back piece of a two piece oval pendant. The front piece has the “Tree of Life” cut out so that the serenity prayer peaks through. A great, meaningful gift for yourself or a loved one.
