From Indecision to Leadership (Using BDA Tool 12)

Thought for today:

Business people sometimes use imperfect information when making decisions.  There are no guarantees of outcomes, only ways to lower risks and maximize outcomes.

We may get professional advice for the big-ticket items, but the decisions, ultimately, are ours.

BDA Tool 12

“We are willing to be in charge and responsible for our business. Professionals such as accountants, lawyers, and consultants who work for us are not our higher power.”

A member shares:

“Before I got to BDA, I used to feel insecure about my business decisions.  I would think, ‘What if I made mistakes?’  After all, I had certainly wrecked my credit.  What if I didn’t do my job perfectly?  ‘What if, what if…’

“I was lost in a sea of ‘what ifs’, vacillating between waves of ‘experts’ – creditors, lawyers, business analysts, IT consultants.  If I kept asking enough people for their opinion, I would eventually get the answer I wanted to hear.  It was endless confusion.

“Getting into The BDA Tools, I started to understand that I didn’t have to do it perfectly – I just had to show up and do my best.  I could decide from imperfect information, and simply improve on my decision later as the roll-out process commenced.

“I started getting advice from professionals and acting on it, accepting that making some mistakes is a way to learn.  Today I mitigate that risk, knowing that the worst mistake is not to act, but to be paralyzed by fear and indecision, building a mole hill into a mountain.”

Good advice:

When we work the BDA program we don’t surrender our judgement to others.  We gather trusted consultants, and make decisions based on their counsel. We can take advice we get, and act as conscience dictates.

Ask:

Am I getting the advice I need?

Meditation for today:

We shouldn’t neglect our basic needs as we move through difficult moments in our days.  The acronym H.A.L.T. – don’t stay hungry, angry, lonely or tired – can help us get grounded when we feel lost in whirlwinds of indecision.

Sometimes we need to take a break, get up and walk a while, and “Move a muscle, change a thought.”

Affirmation for today:

“Today I will not take myself so seriously.  If I get stuck, panicked, or depressed, I will stop  and get unblocked with a spiritual approach.”

“The power of fellowship teaches me.  The ‘spiritual angle’ sustains me.”
