How To Nurture Our Financial Visions

Thought for today:

We hear stories of people getting a windfall, or winning the lottery,  yet within a short time finding themselves in worse debt and isolation than ever. How could this happen?

Achieving our visions – whether to be debt free, own a home, buy a car, or whatever else we personally aspire to do – usually involve some measure of humility, wisdom and mindfulness about money.   So we have to be willing to grow along spiritual lines if we want solvency and prosperity as a way of life.

A member shares:

“I once won an affordable housing lottery – meaning that as  first time home buyer I was able to buy a house at a greatly reduced rate.  I never expected to win it.  We were quite happy in our apartment, but with a child on the way it seemed foolish to ‘look this gift horse in the mouth’, so we went through the process.

“We basically had to agree to be homesteaders – living in the house for ten years.  During that time, I went into unsecured debt as well, and joined DA.  When we finally sold that house after ten years, we had enough money to pay off all our debts and then some.  I thought I was on my way – and said goodbye to DA.

“This disease of compulsive debting and underearning is insidious – it waited patiently for me.  On top of a mortgage in a new place, I took out a home equity loan, which was fine because it was a secured loan and I wanted to build an accessory apartment in it. But the bank threw in credit cards as well.  That was my downfall.  I sold that house and walked away with more debt than ever.  Then I can back to DA, and started applying the program in full rigor.”

Being careful what we pray for:

Prayer is fundamental to many people’s financial recovery, but when it comes to quick riches we should be careful what we pray for!  With each vision we voice, a new process unfolds, and we will need to adapt to some change, lest we be swallowed up in waves of change…

Our visions have real power to transform our lives when we nurture them.  We need to wield that power humbly, not greedily.   We don’t want to grow so fast that we can no longer keep track of our numbers. “Quick fixes” are usually not the answer – but the right visions are, when we carry them wisely!

Ask:

“What do I really want to make of my life?  Am I willing to adapt to the new challenges that will come with my vision?”

Meditation for today:

When we write our dreams and visions on paper, they multiply.  And when we create treasure maps, they link our dreams to our future reality.

Affirmation for today:

“Prosperity is all around me, and today I will invite it in to stay.”
