How to Overcome Self-sabotage

Thought for today:

At its heart, compulsive debting is about abdicating responsibility.  The debtor so afflicted believes that others are more qualified to manage things.

Under-earning is being oblivious when opportunities come along to increase our income.  It means being overwhelmed by the prospect of looking for better work.

Fear and Pride kept many of us from seeking help – that old, comfortable misery!  What we needed was hope.  DA could help if we let it.  The principles of DA lead to self-respect.

A member shares:

“I always undervalued myself. As a kid in grade school I remember running for class president.  I voted for my opponent and lost by one vote!  That was a ‘Charlie Brown’ moment I’ll never forget.

“I had low self-esteem and shame.  I became a chronic underearner, wishing someone would rescue me.  I don’t know how it got so bad, but I had a master’s degree and was working for minimum wage.

“I was angry about being stuck.  Most of my anger was directed toward myself.  Working DA was hard for me cause I felt such rage.

I was a perpetual victim, full of self-pity.  I felt trapped, with limited options.  But there is more to every story, and DA gave me another chance at a ‘second act’.”

 Success is possible!

Sometimes others see an opportunity for us before we do.  The program of DA helps us take off the blinders we wear, so we can see possibilities again.

In DA we take a personal inventory of ourselves.  We become willing to admit that we have been our own worst enemy.  We humbly share with a sponsor.  With the help of our Pressure Relief Group we develop practical Action Plans to improve our situations.

DA meetings help us remember where we came from, so we never have to go back to the old behaviors again.

As a result of working the program, some members have created scalable internet businesses.  Others coach in a field they are knowledgeable in, and still others offer a meaningful service or craft that had once laid dormant inside them.

Ask:

Do I humbly share with my sponsor?  Have I been noticing the opportunities I have to improve my quality of life?

Meditation for today:

The change you begin today will ripple through your tomorrows.  Take a few moments during a busy day to acknowledge your vision, dream or goal, and take an action toward it.  Your days will build momentum.

Affirmation for today:

“My vision for the future is where all progress is born.  It is growing perfectly and on schedule.”
