Signs You May Be a Compulsive Debtor (Signpost #7)

Thought for today:

Money is neither good nor bad. It just is. It’s a tool – a means to an end. Nothing more.  It’s people who attach anxiety to it.  Money doesn’t think.

Signpost #7 (of compulsive debting)

“Living in chaos and drama around money: Using one credit card to pay another; bouncing checks; always having a financial crisis to contend with.”

Halting the “Debt Spiral”

We debtors, in our disease, destroyed our own serenity.  We spent to find happiness.  We connived, paying one card with the other.  We became paralyzed by fear, dreading the next piece of mail with the next late fee notice.

Then we got paid, and we couldn’t wait to spend again to forget our trouble.  This “debt spiral” seemed like the only life there was.

Today, when the debting disease seems works overtime against us, we can tell the committee in our brains to take a hike, and surrender our reactions around money to a Higher Power.   After all, whose life is it, anyway? No one said we had to do it perfectly.

We can start today, by not incurring unsecured debt no matter what.

Ask:

Have I given up “drama and chaos around money”?

Meditation for today:

Our brains can manufacture excitement out of boredom.  Chaos comes from fear of being left alone with our thoughts.

It helps to seek gratitude.  Think about the people who were there for you when you needed them.  Give kindness can be medicinal, and help calm frantic feelings.

Seek enough gratitude to put space between you and debt.  Never forget the drama we once lived with, and the DA tools that helped us find a sane life.

Affirmation for today:

“I am receiving unexpected wealth today.  When it comes to me, I will say ‘thank you’.”
