February 21, Using the Telephone And the Internet. (Tool Seven)

Thought for today:

How trapped we felt before DA – isolated, alone with only our debts for company, overwhelmed, neglecting ourselves and our loved ones. Relief came when the people in DA showed us what sane living was.

We began to connect in DA fellowship in many ways – in meetings, using the telephone, online groups. Gradually the isolation faded. We began to feel real friendship.

Tool Seven: The Telephone and the Internet
“We maintain frequent contact with other DA members by using the telephone, email, and other forms of communication. We make a point of talking to other DA members before and after taking difficult steps in our recovery.”

Do I bookend on difficult steps in my recovery, to avail myself of a solvent member’s perspective? Do I realize I may be helping them as mush as I am helping myself? Do I reach out to my DA network of friends?

Meditation for today:

The more we reach out our hands for help, the more open we are to receiving the answers we need to hear. We are not meant to live in isolation. Reach out, and experience life to the fullest.

Affirmation for today:

As I use the phone to bookend with DA members, I learn how to unscramble my thoughts that much more.

Prayer for today:

I pray for the willingness to share with others, for it is by ending our isolation that we find our recovery.

How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt, and Live Prosperously*: Based on the Proven Principles and Techniques of Debtors Anonymous by Jerrold Mundis is one of the most popular books for recovering from compulsive debting.

A Currency of Hope is the main book of Debtors Anonymous.  You are left with a clear understanding of the fellowship.  The many stories of recovery give the reader many opportunities for identification with the feelings of the writers, members of the fellowship speaking in first person of their experience, strength and hope for the future.

Our recent survey asked for resources for decluttering, so I’d like to re-recommend this wonderful book that walks you through the many layers of tidying: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo is a New York Times Best Seller on this subject.   Other terrific resources are The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide: How to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify Your Life and Miss Minimalist: Inspiration to Downsize, Declutter, and Simplify.  The clarity you get from applying these simple techniques is amazing!
