Where Do You Fit In?

Thought for today:

If everyone sincerely tried to live according to the 12 Steps of recovery, the world would be a better place. The 12 Traditions could bring harmony.  The 12 Concepts of World Service could inspire a harmonious planed.

The world would be a very different place if we lived according to the principles of recovery, unity and service.  But, of course, ignorance and suffering are too commonplace.

Self-centered fear of not getting what we want, or of losing what we already have, holds people and society back.  Misunderstandings erupt too easily.  Retribution becomes a policy.  Myopic thinking replaces Higher Powered thinking.

A member shares:

“I used to always run from Traditions meetings.  Now I see them as an opportunity to learn about how we can cooperate better in fellowship, and I even apply the Traditions to my family life.

“For instance, our family practices the principle of Unity, and we try to teach our kids to work together.  We try to look at the world through the prism of a Higher Power.  We help those that suffer.  We stick to our primary purpose of growing along spiritual lines.

“There are so many challenges to stay solvent. After working the program for a while, you start to realize it’s not just about me, but it’s about how I fit into this whole world.  I need to think outside my comfort zone.  I need to think from a Higher Powered perspective.”

What should we do?

Should we give up?  Of course not! What does it matter what one person does?  A lot!  Even though it’s a challenging life, be at peace with your soul.  Let principled living start with you.  It will build out naturally from you.

Change always begins with one person looking beyond selfish motives.  It starts with personal change, then interpersonal, then the community.

“With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful life…  Strive to be happy.”

The best way to change the world is to focus on what our part in it is.  If we are compulsive debtors, our Higher Power’s will for us is to pass the principles of Recovery, Unity and Service on to the debtor who still suffers.

Meditation for today:

We need to look at our world from a higher perspective. We have what we need to make it work in this life.

If we all lived according to the principles of recovery, unity and service, everyone would have plenty of time, money, and love!

Affirmation for today:

“I have everything I need to make my life a masterpiece.”

“As I receive abundance, I give back in love.”

“Let it begin with me.”
