Working Through Difficulties

Thought for today:

Have you ever been so stressed over some event in your life that you didn’t know where to turn?   Stress happens to all of us, and the way we deal with it can either prolong it or help turn it around.

Think about the benefits to stress.  It can bring us to critical choices.  Consider the stress that brought us to DA.  Dealing with creditor phone calls , warning letters,  summonses for unpaid debts were all pretty stress provoking., yet at some point, we reached for help, and found DA, (or this website), which began turning our attitude and life around.

It’s true there are times when hurtful things happen behind our control.  A loved one is suddenly gone, leaving a void.  A beloved pet dies.  A health problem seems insurmountable.  The largest  company in town goes out of business or moves overseas, causing massive layoffs and disrupting many lives.  It’s tempting sometimes to lash out or curl under a blanket…

In tough times there is another option: Draw strength from the Twelve Step fellowship.  Make a phone call and get perspective.  Visit to a program friend.  Attend a DA meeting. Process grief .  Finding our way back to serenity takes time, but with practice, perspective returns quicker with an open attitude.

The point is we don’t need to wallow in isolation and self-pity any more.  By simply connecting wight he fellowship, we can become active participants in our lives again.

Everyone has situations where some form of suffering happens.  That’s life.  But the “misery is optional”.

Ask:

Do I rely on strength I get from DA?

Meditation for today:

If you ever feel anxious and don’t know how to handle a situation, try going for a walk or doing something physical. Getting out in the fresh air is healing, and the brain creates new cells and connections each time you exercise.  While you are walking, ask for you Higher Power, whoever or whatever that is, for the perfect solution to your problem.  Your thoughts will brighten, and you are bound to feel better as you let God handle the problem.

Affirmation for today:

“I am a complete person.”
“I will honor my feelings and speak up whenever I need to.”

“All my difficulties have exit ramps.”
