April 23, Solvency Begins With Hope Grounded In Reality

Thought for today:

Our DA program starts with hope.  Without hope, we never would have taken the effort to get to a meeting and find out what it was all about.

When we first hear about DA, we hope it has an answer to our debting problem.  Someone told us about DA – a therapist, an article in the newspaper, (or a website devoted to DA principles).

Before DA, we had lost hope.  We were usually stuck on the idea that a financial transaction was the only answer.  Surely, a bank would give us a loan to fix things.

But for many of us, the banks would not touch us, except at an exorbitant interest rate.  That was false hope.

When we first heard about DA, we hoped it had a quick fix answer to our debting problem.  Instead, we found a new hope in the form of a spiritual solution, grounded in a spending plan that works.

Hope is different from dreaming.  Hope compels us to action.  We start to open up to new possibilities.  We seek out new answers.  Hope is transformative.

Sometimes we are tempted to lose hope.  A child turns to addictions, bringing the family into financial and emotional turmoil.   A company gets bought and relocates to another country.   Everyone seems to have what we lack most at these times.

Hope anyway.  Hope until it hurts.  There is always reason for hope, or as the Desiderata puts it:

“…whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”*

Ask:

Am I as hopeful as the day I first discovered DA?

Meditation for today:

Everyone needs hope.  It’s built into our DNA to look forward to a better future.  Hope helps us bridge difficult trials.

Seek to experience hope each day, anticipating and looking forward to a new brightness. “Seek and you will find.”

It is in the hoping, that your future reality is shaped.

Affirmation for today:

“I claim that I am receiving ___________ in income soon.”

“My hopes come true in spectacular, unexpected ways, sometimes hidden.”

Prayer for today:

“I pray that I hope for a better tomorrow. I pray that my hope improves my life.”
