Having trouble getting motivated to do your bill paying, mail opening, number tracking? Consider the simple benefit of pleasant surroundings.
Sitting in a comfortable chair, put on some essence music, whatever it takes to bring about Serenity. It makes the task so much easier.
Some people prefer sitting in a coffee shop with Wi-Fi, doing their numbers on their laptop, listening to the chatter of the café in the background, having a cup of coffee. For these people it’s conducive to getting work done. Others need solitude and silence. Some need classical music in the background. Other play rock or rap to get their “inner angst” going. One member has to have a sitcom playing in the background while another needs Mozart’s in ear phones, sunlight on their shoulder, etc.
Whatever you need, why not set your own personal stage for serene action planning.
“I put my ear buds on, and listen to classical music while I do my meditations and readings for the morning. I don’t want to disturb my spouse who is sleeping. I can roll up my numbers, plan my action plan for the day, and get a really good start on the day.”
“While I am sitting at the lunch counter I transfer the mornings receipts into my Smart Phone.”
Meditation for Today:
Our minds need a comfortable physical space to open up to receive the clarity the program offers. Going to a pleasant place for two weeks straight will make it a habit. It will help me work my action plan, and give me greater awareness and acceptance of truths revealed in processing the numbers and reflecting on my life. Awareness and acceptance will lead to a third “a” – “action” – and my actions will be much more focused and profitable in the end.
Affirmation for Today:
Today I will pick the perfect place to honor my program, my numbers, to meditate, and to work on my action plan. Having found a “grand space for small moments” will make my personal truths and my life situation more discernible and acceptable. The truth will be all the more likely to light on my shoulder, as a butterfly, if I am still enough to not startle it away.
Prayer for Today:
Creator of all nature, surely you can help me get centered today in spite of the chaotic distractions of my life’s work. Make me humble enough to slow down and take time at some point today. Find me a good spot to do the internal work I need to do to work my program, process my numbers, open mail, and discover one truth in my program of recovery. May this become a life-long habit.

Hand To Mouth: Living In Bootstrap America, by Linda Tirado. Published by the Penguin Group, it is funny, entertaining and bitingly truthful about how hard it is to be poor. It started out as a forum post in response to someone’s question “Why do poor people do so many things that seem so self-destructive”. You can read her response at this link, entitled “Why I make Terrible Decisions, Or Poverty Thoughts”.
