Thought for today:
If we are honest, we will recognize that however seductive advertisements can be – showing us illusions of driving off in luxury with the perfect mate by our side, for example – they don’t portray us months later, with late fees, repossession, rejection, and despair. Such consequences are the likely result for us of vagueness.
Vigilance and clarity are the watch words of DA Tool Nine.
Tool Nine: Awareness
“We maintain awareness of the danger of compulsive that by taking note of bank, loan company, and credit card advertising and their effects on us. We also remain aware of our personal finances in order to avoid vagueness, which can lead to compulsive debting or spending.”
The general public may have the dubious luxury of entertaining quick credit and mindless spending, but for those of us who have suffered suffocating debt, the choice is one of pure survival: Either we entertain the insane use of credit cards “like normal people”, and stay vague about why we spend, or we open our eyes to the influences of advertisers, admit we are compulsive debtors, and turn to DA for help maintaining clarity about our spending.
Our number one priority is to not debt, one day at a time – no matter what! But to do that, we need clarity about our finances and our influences.
We need to stay aware of the influence of ads that can entice us to use unsecured debt or to overspend on secured debt. We also need to stay vigilant against cluttered thinking about our finances which causes vagueness.
Do I cling to the idea that I am able to use unsecured credit or forget about my numbers, if only for a little while?
Meditation for today:
There is so much to enjoy in the world. Life is less of a compulsion, and more of an unfolding, the more we get in tune with the Spirit’s presence around us.
Affirmation for today:
I can have any vision I care to have today, as long as I don’t debt to make it come true. If I am tempted to debt, I will remember that my Higher Power’s timing is perfect. My Higher Power will work to bring about what is best when the time is right.
Prayer for today:
I pray that my wants and my needs are simple. I pray that my visions are always tied to my spending plan, in the faith that the goodness and abundance that I receive as I practice the principles of DA.
