Relief From the Bondage of Self

Thought for today:

When we were new to DA we were usually preoccupied with our financial situation, and rightly so.  We were obsessed with how to solve our debts, how to stave off the endless fees, fines, and other  consequences of debting.

After we got some time in the program, we started to get perspective. We could identify with other people because they shared similar feelings about financial insecurity.

As we went through the Twelve Steps and worked the Twelve Tool, we got stronger.  Opportunities  for service presented themselves.   We came to understand our role in the group.

The “virtuous cycle” continues today.  The more we share of ourselves, the more we realize that we are not alone.  What started with a simple call for help has become a source of remarkable strength.

Do I share my experience, strength and hope?

Meditation for today:

A person went for a walk in the woods one day and noticed that all the trees in one area were connected together with a single root structure.  Trees had sprouted from the roots of other trees, so that the whole forest was connected  as one tree, all nourished from the same roots.  It occurred to this person that people in fellowship could be said to be connected the same way.

Affirmation:

“I will take care of my self physically, emotionally and spiritually today.  I will develop healthy habits.”

The Third Step Prayer:

“Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.  Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life.  May I do Thy will always.”
