March 1, Overcoming Pressure to Debt

Thought for today:

Sometimes we feel tremendous pressure to debt and there seems no way out, except to use plastic.

A member shares:

“My babies needed diapers, there was no food in the house, and the only thing I could think of was a quick charge to fix it.

“Then I remembered that I had frozen one of my credit cards in a block of ice in my freezer and I stared to thaw it out.  I took it out and ran it under hot water.

“While it was thawing I started thinking of alternatives to debting. I thought of things I could hock at the local pawn shop.

“It was then I realized my wedding ring was of value, and that I also had a friend who was willing to loan me the cash for nothing. I decided to ask her to take my wedding ring as collateral, to hold until I could return the needed cash.

“Initially she refused, but when I told her my DA recovery depended on it, she agreed. She knew how debt had ruined my life.

“Using a secure loan with collateral got me through that week without debting. Today, my solvency is the most important thing in my life.”

We don’t need to debt, no matter what. Behind every desperate situation, there is always a chance for continuing our solvency. We just need to trust that the answer is there, be a little creative, humbly ask for what we need, and be willing to relinquish what we have in return.

We will be amazed before we are halfway through, how simple and profound this technique of using collateral is in maintaining out solvency.

Am I willing to be creative to maintain my solvency today?

Meditation for today:

We have instincts for a reason. They are there for our self-preservation. Our instincts exist to benefit us. We should never allow our instincts to control us, though. Using our minds, we can overcome any adversity. Once we stop abusing ourselves by acting out, our deeper feelings are bound to return, and some of them may be scary. But working through the fear is always better than giving in to it.

Affirmation for today:

Today I will accept my instincts and honor my feelings. If I start to panic, I will not be afraid to shed light on the dark corners of my mind. In this way, I will become more merciful toward others, for they are certainly on the same journey toward God’s will as me, only at their own pace.

Prayer for today:

I pray that I can face my feelings without debting. When I am afraid, I pray for the wisdom, and to trust that my Higher Power is doing for me what I could not do for myself.
