6 Slogans To Get You Through Anything

Thought for today:

Sometimes life’s challenges feel overwhelming, and we need a shortcut way to refocus on the principles of DA.  That’s where slogans come in.

To our knowledge, DA hasn’t adopted any slogans officially, but DA has approved AA literature, and much of AA literature uses the AA slogans, so we can start there.

A member shares:

“When I first came into the program, the slogans were all I could focus on.  They were simple and to the point ways to refocus on recovery when kids, creditors and work issues came up.  The slogans helped encapsulate what DA was trying to tell me.”

6 slogans to get you through the toughest day

  1. First Things First – We put our priorities in order, from the start.  A perfect example of this  is when we first get to DA, we choose not use credit cards.  On this simple foundation, we can build lasting solvency.
  2. One Day At a Time – We avoid worry about the future, focusing on today, which is the only day we can really change.
  3. Easy Does It – Being frantic was a way of life before DA.  Now, when we take time to relax and think (see the next slogan), we can find answers that would elude us otherwise.  We bookend with others in DA before and after making difficult decisions.
  4. T.H.I.N.K. – When we need to speak up for ourselves, we can use this acronym to make sure we are on the right track: Is what we are about to say Thoughtful, Honest, Intelligent, Necessary, and Kind?  If so, we are ready to have a courageous discussion.
  5. Keep It Simple – We compulsive debtors can complicate anything – taxes, shopping, work, the list goes on.  When we try to simplify our lives, we are consciously working to bring order to chaos.
  6. But For The Grace of God – This is a reminder of how much worse it could be if we don’t work the program of DA.

Of course there are many other slogans.  See this article from DA for some other great suggestions.

Ask:

“Do I use the slogans during the day?

Meditation for today:

Sometimes we find ourselves hitting against an imaginary wall, fighting to get through some desperate situation.  In such times, we need to stop fighting, and reason, asking ourselves two questions:  First, do we need to learn something new in order to deal with the situation?  If so, we should seek out that knowledge as quickly as possible.  Second, if new learning doesn’t help, we need to ask ourselves if we need to think about the situation differently.  Is our perspective off?  Do we need to build a bridge to get over that wall?

Affirmation for today:

Just for this day, I will live in this moment, right here, right now.  I will set aside my fears of the future and my regrets about the past, accepting everything exactly as it is at this moment.” *
