The Paradox of Strength From Humility, In Step 7

Thought for today:

Humility is the answer to many of life’s problems, but we rarely see that when we are in the midst of troubling times.

When we finally pocket our pride we can find new answers to old scenarios.

DA Step 7

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

A member shares:

“I had a lot of anger issues when I was debting, and they continued into my early days in DA.   I used to regularly argue with my bank over bounced check fees.  I bickered with creditors trying to collect.  I once yelled at a sheriff who served me a court summons.

“I was desperate to find help in DA – willing to try anything.  I asked a lot of questions and they had answers I could understand.

“They explained to me that in order to find my answers, I had to stop fighting with my debt.  I needed to surrender in my battle with credit cards.

“Later, in Step Seven, I learned the freedom I can have when I seek humility.  I don’t want to struggle with debt any more, and today I am finding a freedom I never knew before.”

Humility is the answer

It is a paradox that strength comes from humility.  Our Higher Power brings relief to our problems when we seek wisdom.

Ask:

“Am I willing to let go of the defects that keep me from enjoying life?”

Meditation for today:

There is no point in squandering time thinking about what could have been.  Today is a new, Higher Powered beginning of our choice.

The old rules need not apply any more if they don’t serve the general happiness of our world.  Like a bird that leaves its nest to fly, we too need to move beyond the things we outgrow.

Affirmation for today:

“Just for this day, I will face my life with courage.  With the help of DA and my Higher Power, I have what I need to live through whatever this day brings.” *
