Thought for today:
It’s better to “unplug” from work during our vacations, so we can rejuvenate. But letting go of work and daily worries is hard for some of us, and we seek to fill the void with something else.
What helps us not need to fill the void is to include a Higher Power in our plans. Our Higher Power is any power greater than ourselves, yet within us, that we turn to in time of introspection and renewal. Inviting this Higher Power can add a special quality to time spent away.
A member shares:
“I just got back from my vacation at a resort I had been to before. This time, I’m so glad I invited my Higher Power with me.
“I appreciated nature more. Every day I saw creatures I had never seen before. Amazing shapes and sizes and colors.
“I allowed myself to go with the flow. Which venue for a meal was not as important as the company I was with (my spouse). When I relinquished control over every minute of every day, the days were spontaneously beautiful.
“I experienced timelessness on this vacation. Now that I am back, I feel more clear and energized than ever.”
A sense of awe:
A sense of adventure and awe does wonders for the spirit. When we set aside our responsibilities for a while, open up to the experience, and wrap ourselves in it, the present moment can bring us places we never could have imagined.
Indulging ourselves with freedom from “time-tyranny” helps rebuild our confidence, and brings fresh perspective, inspired by our Higher Power, when we return to work,
Ask:
Do I include my Higher Power in my vacations?
Meditation for today:
The word “enthusiasm” can mean “being filled with the spirit”. “Theology” means seeking to understand spirituality. “Spirit” is another word for the Higher Power of our understanding. “Our understanding” is how we relate to and connect with a subject. In this context, enthusiasm can bring us closer to our highest selves.
Affirmation for today:
“My Higher Power fills me with joy. I will let go of negative expectations and embrace the time given to me.”
“I will not open my email for work. I will remember that my people would call me if I was urgently needed. If I have planned coverage for my time away, then I will let my people be guided by my Higher Power.”
